Asus Reveal New 360Hz Gaming Monitor - Update: We're at 610Hz Now

We first wrote about this back in 2020, when ASUS and Nvidia announced the ROG Swift 360Hz - at the time, the fastest gaming monitor ever made, and one plenty of people (us included) figured was already past the point of any real benefit. "Once, we thought everything over 60fps was overcrowded," we said back then, not entirely sure that logic wouldn't apply to 360Hz too.

It didn't age well as an argument. ASUS has since blown past it - the ROG Strix XG248QSG Ace is rated up to 610Hz, and it isn't the only serious contender in that range.

What's actually in the Ace

The XG248QSG Ace is a 24.1" 1080p display on a Super TN panel, which is the panel type still favored for raw speed over color/contrast. ASUS quotes:

  • Up to 610Hz refresh rate (with overclocking enabled)
  • 0.1ms gray-to-gray response time
  • 0.8ms input lag
  • ROG Extreme Low Motion Blur 2 (ELMB 2), which suppresses ghosting without the usual brightness penalty older blur-reduction modes carried

It launched at $999 in the US (€1,049.90 in the Eurozone) - a real premium over a standard 240Hz panel, but priced as what it is: a dedicated competitive tool, not a general-use monitor.

If raw Hz isn't your priority, ASUS's other 2026 release, the ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace, trades some of that ceiling (540Hz) for OLED contrast and per-pixel response - worth knowing about if you care more about visual clarity in darker scenes than squeezing out the last available frames.

Does any of this actually matter for your game?

Same honest answer we'd have given in 2020: it depends what you're playing and how good you already are. The jump from 60Hz to 144Hz is something almost anyone can feel immediately. The jump from 240Hz to 610Hz is a much smaller, much more marginal gain - real, but only worth chasing once your reaction time and mechanics are the actual bottleneck, not your gear.

Where it does matter: competitive shooters like Overwatch and CS2, where frame-to-frame consistency affects tracking and flick accuracy, and any title where input lag stacks with network latency in a way you can actually feel. Past a certain point, the gains aren't about the big obvious jump anymore - they're about removing every small inconsistency between your input and what actually happens on screen. A 610Hz panel is the display side of that chase.

It won't make you better at the game on its own. But if you're already at the level where going pro is a real question you're asking yourself, this is exactly the kind of marginal gain that starts to matter.
