Short answer: a Diamond Pick’Ems coin isn’t something you earn by playing CS2, levelling up, completing missions, or buying with real money — despite what you might’ve read elsewhere. It’s Valve’s top cosmetic tier for correctly predicting match outcomes in the official Pick’Ems Challenge that runs alongside every CS2 Major.

How the Pick’Ems Challenge actually works

Ahead of each Major, Valve opens a Pick’Ems Challenge on your CS2 profile. You predict match winners through the group stage and playoffs, and correct picks move you up through four cosmetic tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and finally Diamond. This runs every Major — it’s a recurring feature of the CS2 competitive calendar, not a one-off event tied to any single tournament.

Diamond is deliberately the hardest tier to reach, and anyone who’s actually filled out a bracket knows why – one upset in the opening stage and your run’s over. Recent Majors have shown just how rare it is: at the BLAST Paris Major, only around 0.3% of participants reached Diamond, and at the Austin Major the figure was closer to 0.01%. Exact numbers shift Major to Major depending how chalky the bracket plays out, but Diamond consistently sits in fractions of a percent – you’re statistically far more likely to unbox a rare skin from a case than to call every upset correctly.

What a Diamond coin isn’t

A few things worth clearing up, since this gets muddled a lot:

  • It’s not spendable. There’s no market inside CS2 where you use Pick’Ems coins as currency to buy weapons, skins, or stickers.
  • It’s not tradeable or sellable. Unlike weapon skins, your Pick’Ems coin tier stays account-bound in your CS2 inventory as a record of that Major’s picks — it isn’t listed on the Steam Community Market.
  • It has nothing to do with CSGO Empire’s “Empire Coins.” Empire Coins are a separate, unrelated virtual balance used on the third-party skin-betting site CSGO Empire — see our Empire Coins guide for how that actually works. The two just happen to share the word “coin.”
