Valve ordered to pay $2.3 million by the Australian Full court

Valve has been ordered to pay $2.3 million by the Australian Full court as it misled its customers. The Game publisher and developer has been deemed to have engaged in false and misleading representations to Australian Customers.

This important precedent confirms the ACCC’s view that overseas-based companies selling to Australian consumers must abide by our laws. If customers buy a product online that is faulty, they are entitled to the same right to a repair, replacement or refund as if they’d walked in to a store,

ACC commissioner, Sarah Court.

This decision basically upholds a previous court’s judgment ( which was subsequently challenged by Valve). As a result, Valve will have to pay the full penalty of $3 million AUSD which comes to about $2.3 million.
