Dreamhack has announced further details of its upcoming tournament the Dreamhack Atlanta 2018. The tournament features a prize pool of $100,000 and will take place at the Georgia World Congress Center. There will be a total of eight teams competing in a GSL format Group stage at the event.
The lineup for the event consists of several prominent Tier 2 teams such as EnVyUs, Complexity etc. These teams are a challenge to the top tiers in Counter-Strike but have not been able to provide consistent results. The eight teams are divided into two groups of four teams each.
Each group will see two teams proceed to the Playoffs / Semifinals. With all the schedule and the format for the tournament announced, we wait with excitement for the tournament to commence.
Dreamhack has been hosting tournaments all over the world in the past few years. Their venture into Atlanta is definitely an exciting prospect for fans as they will be able to see their favourite teams in action. For this tournament, Complexity, Rogue and Team Vitality are the overwhelming favourites.
The teams to watch out for
Complexity has shown us their capability at the FaceIT London Major 2018. The team’s performance at the major was a huge surprise for many. The team was able to upset some of the biggest names in Counter-Strike. Under the guidance of Stanislaw, they won matches against BIG Gaming, G2 as well as Space Soldiers. The complexity comes with a lot of experience on their roster especially when it comes to Tier 2 matches.
Rogue recently made several roster changes, especially to their leadership position. With SL in control of the team, we hope to see this roster succeed. They have not had much time together with MSL and that might prove to be a limiting factor in this event. Regardless, this team has a lot of firepower and with Hiko on the roster, they have the potential for success.
Another team to watch out for during Dreamhack Atlanta 2018 is Team Vitality. This team has several former best players on their lineup. With the likes of NBK, Happy and Zywoo, no opponent can take this team lightly. Zywoo might be shy on stage, but his performance within the server is nothing short of an MVP.
Betting odds at DreamHack Atlanta 2018
This case is one of the freest DreamHack events in contemporary times for bookmakers in Atlanta. This is certainly true in the absence of the top teams. So the chances, as we see here in Betway esports, are very open.
- Team Vitality – 3/1
- compLexity Gaming, Luminosity Gaming – 4/1
- Fragsters – 11/2
- Ghost Gaming – 15/2
- eUnited – 8/1
- Rogue – 10/1
- Team Envy – 25/1
You never see a playoff qualifier as the favourite, but we are here. Team Vitality whose team at League of Legends made such an impression at the recent World Championship is the least pick of ComPLexity Gaming and Luminosity Gaming, a most accomplished pair.
While e United was probably a bit higher than 8/1, the squad made some key improvements in the late roster. There is real (and possibly upside) uncertainty.
In the middle of the table, I think the best value bets fall. Fragsters and Ghost Gaming have both delivered good late results. I find Fragsters to be a very strong bet against a slightly easier opposition here to win this event.
Dreamhack Atlanta 2018 will commence on the 16th of November 2018.
