Valve fixed audio issues with player footsteps in-game, just in time for the FACEIT 2018 New Legends stage, which begins tomorrow.
Valve releases patch to fix audio issues
Earlier today Valve pushed an update to the CS:GO client, following the technical issues reported at FACEIT 2018 Major Qualifier series. According to pro players, competitors experienced a variety of problems with the gaming setup. These included staggering frame rate drops and an inability to hear other players’ footsteps. As a result, Valve has posted on the official CS:GO blog the latest changelog to the game’s client. The full length of the blog post covers one single point, found below.

– Added a server setting “mp_footsteps_serverside” which is enabled by default and switches footsteps near the player from using a mix of client-simulated and server-authoritative to purely server-authoritative.
This setting changes how footstep sounds are conveyed to the players. Moreover, since the solution is a single toggle, this more than likely indicates that Valve is the responsible party for the issues experienced at the FACEIT Qualifier. Members from the CS:GO community have brought up similar points, prior to the release of this new tweak. Several have stated that Valve provided an imperfect version of the game to be used at the FACEIT event, which resulted in the above-mentioned problems.
FACEIT Major New Legends Stage begins tomorrow
The news of the patch fix could have come sooner, considering that the FACEIT Major progresses onto its next stage – New Legends. The new stage will start on 12 September and will run through 16 September. Out of the 16 teams featured during this stage, half of them are here as a result of performing well during the Qualifier.
The tournament will use the Swiss System Format, where the best performing teams will be pushed to the front of the line, while those with questionable performance will have to prove their worth in further matches. The tournament is separated into five rounds, with teams playing in a minimum of three rounds or, in other words, three matches. Matches during rounds 1 through 4 are played in the best-of-one format, while round 5 matches are best-of-three.

The eight teams with the best performance will advance to the New Champions stage, while the other eight will be eliminated from the tournament. The New Champions stage begins with the Quarterfinals and finishes with the Grand Final. Matches during this stage will be best-of-three and in single-elimination brackets. The FACEIT Major offers a $1,000,000 prize pool, $500,00 will go the first place winner, $150,000 to the runner-up, and $70,000 to third and fourth place teams.
