French Football Club, Lyon launches esports club in Chinq

Esports has been seeing the advent of several top tier football and basketball teams. Lyon, the French football team is the latest organisation to join the bandwagon with the launch of their very own esports team.

In a report on EsportsObserver, Lyon will be launching their very own Fifa team consisting of three online players. The three players Song Di, Xu Qingmu, Sun Jiangfeng and player/manager Feng Rui. have been very strong in the scene and will be representing the club in their online matches.

This is the first esports FIFA team to be launched in China by a major football organization. The developers for FIFA have reported over 40 million users, with over 10 million active users.

Lyon aren’t brand new to esports, signing a French FIFA player, Fouad “Rasfou” Fares, in January 2017. This is part of a continuing trend of large sporting teams investing in esports, namely fellow French club Paris Saint-Germain, and other European clubs like FC Copenhagen and FC Schalke 04.
