Sebastian Parks was recently appointed as the Director of eSPorts. With many recent investments into eSports by NBA and mainstream media companies, eSports is looking set to grow at an astonishing rate. Houston Rockets have not yet announced anything big in respect to eSports. They are still working their way around the industry and want to avoid any potential mishaps in the ẃild west that is eSports.
EsportsObserver asked him a couple of questions to get a good idea about Houston Rockets future in eSports. Here are some excerpts:
What are the Houston Rockets’ initial goals in the esports world?
We’re currently looking at the industry as a whole to determine where we can add the most value. We know this to be a huge opportunity of us. We want to take the necessary steps to both grow esports and become more involved.
Do you plan on purchasing (or starting up) a competitive team? If so, in which game?
Like we’ve mentioned, we’re not taking anything off the table. We’re looking into all the different entry points and seeing what’s the best fit for our organization.
What do the Rockets see in the future of esports? Where would you like the industry to be in 5 years?
We believe esports will continue to grow even larger than it is today and further enter the mainstream consciousness.
Personally, I’d love for the industry to mature to the point that the smartest and hardest-working men and women who dream of becoming professional gamers/working in the esports space will have an opportunity to not only make a living, but also to make a career for themselves.
Hopefully over the next five years, we will make that version of the esports dream a reality.
It does seem that Houston Rockets are in it for the long haul. They are okay with letting go of potential profits in the present in order to secure themselves as a long term and serious organisation in eSports. With Traditional sports earnings growth rate plateauing and eSports growing at an exponential rate, it is glad to see big sporting organisations to be taking interest in the scene.
